The Heart Shaped Stone

Last weekend R’s niece found a heart shaped stone in the earth while we were out walking. I was just going to post the picture with no text at all but it struck me as a symbol for something that’s been pecking at my head for some time now.As well as being a crafty chick I’m quite a nature geek - I love the city but I have to get out at least once a week for a walk in nature, plus I’m interested in urban nature and how animals and plants survive in the big smoke. It’s a longtime love of mine, so It’s bothered me that here I am, making jewellery and stuff from plastic fantastic which is most likely spewed out from dodgy child employing and hugely polluting Chinese factories. How can I square that with my tree-hugging tendencies? Well, here’s my answer. True, I still have quite a lot of plastic fantastic left over to make stuff with and I will not waste that, it will go into future creations until it is all gone. But from now on charms will be sourced from vintage suppliers, my clothes will be made from pre loved fabrics, and I will make as many of the pendants charms and beads that I use myself and use unusual re-purposed items just for fun. Things were already going that way, so it’s not going to be hard. From now on, only findings will be bought brand new.

That would be a really cool pin or even a centerpiece for a necklace.
It’s very sweet.

It was so sweet when she found it, what a fantastic eye that child has. I should take her out thrifting with me :D
